Conducting

 

Richard studied conducting with Norman del Mar at the Royal College of Music. where he was awarded the Ricordi Prize and Tagore Gold Medal. Early professional engagements were concert performances of Puccini's Turandot and Monterverdi's L'Orfeo. At the Montepulciano Cantiere Internazionale d'Arte he conducted many first performances, which led to conducting engagements with the Hessischer Rundfunk.

 

He has conducted recordings of his music for Decca, Warner Classics and his acclaimed recording of Mirror Of Perfection for Sony Classical. During his tenure as Director of Music at The Royal Ballet he conducted many concerts and ballets, and also conducted his ballet Plea to Autumn at the Royal Opera House in the presence of Her Majesty The Queen. With the Bournemouth Symphony Chorus he conducted Berlioz Grande Messe des Mortes at The Lighthouse Concert Hall.

 

With the Brno Philharmonic he appeared at the Spilberk Festival 2009, conducting Janacek, Dvorak and his own music as well as recording his Violin Concerto with the same orchestra. 2011 sees a return to Brno for a programme of English and American music . Richard is also much in demand as a studio conductor and has conducted over two hundred sessions at Pinewood Studios and all the the major London studios for film and television productions, including the Emmy Award-winning series Millennium.
